ABOUT ME:

I have been a Christian counselor since 2008. Most of my experience has been working with adults and adolescents. I have a special interest in helping people acquire the necessary skills to deal with the challenges life sometimes brings: anxiety, depression, marital or relationship problems, parenting issues, childhood trauma, PTSD, adolescent issues, binge eating disorder and many others. My style of counseling is client-centered and I feel that developing a close, trusting relationship with my clients is of utmost importance in the process. I use my faith based value system to help clients find answers that will bring about a more balanced and harmonious life. I seek to simply understand and help and if we happen to share a laugh along the way, even better.

Though I have experience in treating many types of challenges, most of which are listed on the home page, I have specialized training in two areas: EMDR and teaching parents more effective skills.

EMDR, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a type of therapy that is very effective in the treatment of chronic emotional pain caused by childhood trauma and dysfunction. I find that many current day stressors are actually triggers to old pain that lies hidden in the soul. EMDR is also extremely effective in the treatment of PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and other forms of trauma.

Parenting Skills – I am a trained facilitator of Love and Logic and have conducted numerous classes for parents over the years. In addition, I have presented many workshops for parents and teachers on developing more positive relationships with children.

Over the years, I have also had the honor of speaking to numerous groups about effective parenting strategies, anxiety, bullying in the schools, self-esteem building, divorce, grief and many other topics. I regularly offer parent training sessions and staff development training for educators.

Lastly, I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from the University of Houston-Clear Lake and a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Prairie View A&M University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas and a member of TCA, AACC and EMDRIA. In addition, I hold teaching certifications in the following areas: elementary education, art education and school counseling. I was a school counselor for nine years.

I have been married since 1983 and my husband and I have two wonderful children and four grandchildren.
